Ms. Janet Museveni, First Lady of
Uganda, paid a visit to Waste Concern’s Community Based
Composting Project in Dhaka along with her delegation on June 7,
2005. Mr. A. H. Md. Maqsood Sinha and Mr. Iftekhar Enayetullah,
Co- Founders of Waste Concern, welcomed her and the delegation.
Waste Concern’s simple low-cost model of converting organic
waste into biofertilizer has highly impressed the first lady
during her field visit in the Waste Concern’s composting plant.
The first lady showed her keen interest to replicate the model
in Uganda, which can create new jobs for the urban poor, clean
the city as well as can replenish the soil with organic matter.
Here it should be mentioned that Waste Concern’s model of waste
management is being replicated in 20 cities of Bangladesh by the
Government of Bangladesh with the support from UNDP, UNICEF,
several NGOs and private sectors.
Ms. Museveni extended an
invitation to Waste Concern to look at the opportunity of
replicating the model in Uganda. Waste Concern is honored to
receive the invitation.
