Opening of World's First Carbon Trading Based Composting Project

WWR Bio Fertilizer Bangladesh Ltd. (a joint venture company of Waste Concern in association with its Dutch partners) inaugurated world's first compost plant commissioned under a Clean Development Mechanism project located in Bulta (Dhaka-Sylhet road about 7 kilometer from the Katchpur bridge) on November 25, 2008. The project will have two more plants around Dhaka city within the year 2009, this project will recycle 700 tons of organic waste everyday.

The project is registered and approved by the Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC. It also has received approval from the Designated National Authority (DNA) of the Government of Bangladesh established in the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

The methodology through which reduction of green house gasses from the project shall be calculated was also developed by Waste Concern in association with World Wide Recycling B.V. The methodology has been duly approved by CDM Executive Board.
